I'm open to any suggestions, but my research as lead me to believe that mediasonic's Proraid series seems to be prone to heating issues, and the Probox series is dependable enough, but doesn't do hardware raid. Right now the enclosures I've identified are the TerraMaster D5-300 USB3.0 (Hardware raid 5 and 5 drive bays), The Mediasonic Proraid HFR7-SU3S2 (Hardware Raid 5, 4 Drive Bays), the Mediasonic Probox HF2-SU31C) (No raid, 4 drive bays), or the Mediasonic Probox HF2-SU3S2 (Older model, but seems reliable enough). I don't really want to set up or even need a NAS, as from what I can tell they don't really have the capacity to direct connect to the hardware within, which is my primary requirement. What I want to do is basically set up a 'single' external drive (From a hardware perspective- one discrete box instead of multiple floating/internal ones) to handle all my mass storage/multimedia needs, and turn the desktop itself into a beast just running solid state for it's program/gaming needs. The main use case for this storage right now is multimedia handling- I've got a lot of denoising going on, which runs 24/7 at this point, as well as a plex server. No redundancy or anything of that nature. Right now, I've got about 36TB of hard drives spread around between 3 external drives and 2 internal drives on my current set up.
